Curriculum

The dedicated teachers and staff at Hastings Public Schools are committed to providing a rich, comprehensive, and inclusive education. We recognize and value the diverse ways students learn, and we continually review and refine our curriculum to ensure we are enhancing students' classroom experiences to the fullest.

Under the guidance and support of Andrew Hodges, the Director of Teaching and Learning, the district is continually planning, implementing, and evaluating our curriculum.

ACADEMIC STANDARDS

Hastings Public Schools adheres to academic standards developed by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

All teachers teach reading as part of a Language Arts block. Spelling, writing, speaking and listening skills are incorporated into this block of time.

  • Reading & Writer's Workshop

  • Math: Bridges in grades K - 4

  • Handwriting: Zaner-Bloser method

  • Social Studies

  • Science

  • Health

The students meet with curriculum specialists on a four day rotation basis for the following time periods.

  • Art: 55 minutes

  • Music: 27 minutes two times during each four day rotation

  • Physical Education: 27 minutes two times during each four day rotation

  • Technology/Media (library checkout): combined 55 minutes
